Yesterday was the drywall stage of the new room downstairs. It was exciting to see this monster flatbed truck carrying its own monster forklift pull up in front of house and unload our tiny little pile of drywall. We tried to carry it in as fast as we could, before any building inspectors could see it, since we don't have a permit for the work. ( I'm not trying to evade the law. I just don't think I have the skills to even make the drawings to apply for the permit) Isaac was a very good drywall-carrying-partner. Strong, uncomplaining, and pretty intuitive about when to move where, as opposed to my wife who is grunting and always argueing about which way to turn next.

Misayo's first assignment was to cut a piece that fits by the window, so she had to measure and cut the cutout for the window. When we lifted into place we could see that it was off by a foot. That was a big laugh.

I can see how in building the room, each step has consequences for the next - like not getting the frame's face flush has consequences for the drywall hanging.
